Kenya: flooding in eastern and northern counties

Since the third week of October, the rainy season in Kenya has caused heavy storms and flooding, significantly impacting Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, Marsabit, Samburu, Tana River, and Wajir counties. As at 8 November, the storms and flooding had affected nearly 61,400 people across the country.

Poland: loss of temporary protection status and social benefits for Ukrainian Refugees

There have also been reports that some refugees who do not meet the legal criteria for their TP status to be revoked have stopped receiving family benefits, including those who have not left Poland.

As at 7 October, an estimated 18,000 residents of the Gaza Strip held work permits issued by the Israeli authorities. On 10 October, Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories revoked all work permits. This announcement was followed by mass arrests and detentions of Gazans working in Israel by Israeli authorities.

Nepal: earthquake in Jajarkot district

On 3 November 2023, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit the western area of Jajarkot district in Karnali Province. This is the deadliest earthquake to hit Nepal since 2015, when two earthquakes killed nearly 9,000 people near Kathmandu.

Colombia: food insecurity in Alta Guajira region

La Guajira is the Colombian department with the highest food insecurity prevalence based on 2022 estimates. In 2022, a lack of economic resources resulted in 59.7% (623,000 people) of the department’s households reducing the quantity and quality of their meals, while 17.5% (183,000 people) had at least one person going without food for at least a day.
