Sudan: Floods

Since the rainy season started in June, heavy rains have been causing flash floods across Sudan, affecting 16 of the 18 states in the country. As at 5 September, the floods had killed more than 100 people, affected more than 278,500 people across the country, and totally or partially damaged over 58,600 houses. The risk of further flooding remains high.

Yemen: Fuel supply dynamics

The report identifies and analyses overland fuel trucking and distribution routes – specifically routes used to truck fuel from IRG to DFA areas. It uses satellite imagery to examine the use of these trucking and distribution routes and assesses the number of fuel trucks resent at key points along these routes, both before and after the UN-brokered truce came into effect on 2 April 2022.

India: floods in Odisha state

Heavy monsoon rains in mid and late August 2022 in Odisha state have led to overflowing rivers and landslides that have affected over 950,000 people in Odisha, and around 170,000 people were temporarily residing in around 440 relief centres.

Pakistan: Floods

Since 14 June, Pakistan has been experiencing an abnormal monsoon rainfall season, close to three times more intense than the past 30-year average. As at 29 August, the floods had killed more than 1,000 people, injured 1,600, and affected more than 33 million (equivalent to nearly 15% of the total population).

Ukraine: Winterisation needs and response

An estimated 1.7 million people need winterisation assistance before the upcoming colder temperatures in Ukraine. Temperatures are expected to start dropping in October and reach their lowest in January–February. The conflict resulting from the Russian invasion that began on 24 February 2022 has damaged homes, as well as gas, electricity, and heating infrastructure.

Lake Chad Basin: Impact of extreme weather & climate events on food security

This report aims to explore the impact of extreme weather and climate events on the humanitarian situation in the Lake Chad Basin. Since the 1970s in West and Central Africa, river floods and agricultural and ecological droughts have been increasing while average rainfall has been decreasing. These phenomena have an impact on availability of resources and land, and consequently on the economic and living conditions of the regions’ populations.

Sudan: Increased violence in Darfur Region

Since December 2020, there has been a significant increase in resource-based intercommunal violence between Arab and non-Arab tribes in the Darfur region, located in western Sudan. Between January–July 2022, more than 470,000 people were internally displaced in Darfur, with violence cited as the main reason.

Sudan: Displacement due to conflict in Blue Nile state

The latest intercommunal violence in Blue Nile state began on 13 July 2022. As at 25 July, the violence had killed at least 90 individuals and injured more than 300. It had also led to the displacement of 31,000 people.
