The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is at the epicentre of the current monkeypox (mpox) epidemic, accounting for 90% of all cases in Africa. Mpox is endemic in the DRC, with cases reported since the 1970s.

This report analyses humanitarian needs resulting from Typhoon Yagi, anticipated developments for the coming two–three months, and humanitarian constraints and response capacity. The report also highlights pre-existing needs in affected northern provinces, which may compound the typhoon’s impact.

On 20 August 2024, heavy monsoon rains, alongside a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, caused widespread flooding in eastern Bangladesh, increasing the water levels in Dhalai, Feni, Gomti, Halda, Khoai, Manu, Muhuri, and Surma-Kushiara Rivers.

Since May 2024, Niger has been facing its worst flooding since 2020. By 20 August, authorities had reported that over 46,500 households and more than 353,200 individuals had been affected, with 217 deaths and 200 injuries across the country. 

Yemen is currently in the midst of the Kharif season, the second of its twice-yearly rainy periods.The impact of this rainy season, which began in July, has killed at least 45 people and affected over 37,700 others.
