In September 2021, the Kenyan President declared drought as a national disaster. As at July, the drought had affected 23 arid and semi-arid land counties out of the total 47 counties in the country. 4.4 million people are projected to face acute food insecurity at Crisis (IPC Phase 3) or worse food insecurity levels in these 23 counties between October–December 2022.

Since March 2022, the armed group March 23 Movement (M23) has been launching offensives in North Kivu. The conflict is particularly affecting Rutshuru territory in North Kivu, which is close to the border with Rwanda and Uganda. The fighting escalated on 26 October, resulting in large-scale displacement.

On 21 November 2022, an earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Ritcher scale occurred at a depth of 10km in the West Java province of Indonesia. The earthquake has damaged at least 56,300 houses and has displaced around 61,000 people. At least 58,000 people are living in shelters.
