Sudan: West Darfur pre-crisis profile

On 15 April 2023, the alliance between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) collapsed into violence over a power struggle. The conflict initially erupted in Khartoum, the capital city of Sudan, but has spread across the country. The SAF and RSF had been recruiting and training fighters in Darfur since 2022.

Palestine: escalation of violence in Jenin

On 3 July 2023, Israeli forces conducted a two-day largescale air and ground operation in Jenin Refugee Camp and its surroundings. This is the largest Israeli operation in the occupied West Bank since 2002. The objective of the operation, as stated, was to counter the presence of armed Palestinians in Jenin.

Sudan: Khartoum pre-crisis profile

On 15 April 2023, the alliance between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) collapsed into violence. The conflict that began in Khartoum has spread across the country, causing death, injuries, displacement, and destruction. Since 15 April, 70% of all documented political violence incidents in Sudan have occurred in Khartoum state.

Mozambique: impact of the five-year conflict in Cabo Delgado

In October 2017, violence erupted in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, when armed men occupied the city of Mocimboa da Praia for two days and attacked three police stations, killing 17 people. The report aims to analyse the drivers of conflict in northern Mozambique, particularly in Cabo Delgado province, and their humanitarian impact. The report also includes an overview of people’s coping mechanisms following the conflict.

Cameroon: Increase in cholera cases

Cameroon has been experiencing a cholera outbreak since October 2021. Although the number of reported cases was relatively low between late November 2022 and March 2023, there has been a significant increase since 27 March, particularly in Centre region, making it the new epicentre of the epidemic. The epidemic has since mostly affected Centre, Littoral, South, and West regions, with new cases reported in 29 out of 58 districts countrywide.

Sudan: anticipated impacts of the 2023 rainy season

On 15 April 2023, clashes erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in multiple areas of Sudan. While multiple ceasefires have created temporary lulls in fighting, violence continues. As at 6 June, the conflict had resulted in at least 866 deaths and 6,000 injuries according to the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH).

Colombia: Floods in Arauca department

Since the end of March 2023, rainfall has increased in the department of Arauca. During the first days of May, the rains increased the flow of the Arauca, Caño Caranal, Cusay, and Jordán Rivers, causing them to overflow into the municipalities of Arauquita and Saravena. As at 5 June, the floods had affected more than 9,700 people.
