Cameroon has 54 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Central Region, Littoral Region and West Region as of 23 March 2020. Cameroon’s Ministry of Public Health has developed a preparedness plan for COVID-19, including active surveillance at points of entry, in-country diagnostic capacity at the national reference laboratory, and designated isolation and treatment centres. 

This series of reports is based on focus group discussions and Key Informant Interviews with Rohingya living across Ukhia and Teknaf Camps. The objective of these consultations is to ensure Rohingya’s voices are included in all stages of the COVID-19 response and provide an avenue for Rohingya refugees to express their questions and concerns. 

This report provides an update to the first ACAPS report on government measures published on 19 March. ACAPS’ report on government measures maps initial measures adopted by governments in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a component of ACAPS’ broader effort to monitor the impact of the pandemic.

Since the beginning of 2020 violence has been increasing across multiple locations in Yemen. At the end of February Houthi forces made significant gains in Al Jawf governorate, including taking control of Hazm, the provincial capital. As of mid-March, Houthi forces continue to advance on Marib governorate to the east. This potentially opens a new frontline and if successful in holding newly captured territory, may shift the balance of power more into the hands of Houthis. 

ACAPS' Global Risk Analysis outlines a number of key contexts where a notable deterioration may occur within the next six months, leading to a spike in humanitarian needs. ACAPS analysts conduct daily monitoring and independent analysis of more than 150 countries to support evidence-based decision-making in the humanitarian sector.

COVID-19 is yet to be confirmed in Yemen, however, the likelihood of its spread is high as cases in surrounding countries continue to grow. The country’s infrastructure has been devastated by five years of conflict, leaving little capacity to respond. Only 51% of health centres are fully functional. There is limited medicine, equipment and personal protection equipment available and only two testing sites.

Haiti’s humanitarian situation is complex: the origins of people’s needs are rooted in historical vulnerabilities, and are driven by economic and political instability as well as recurrent meteorological hazards’ impact. 2019 was characterised by socio-political instability in the form of widespread protests, fuelled by an economic downturn that started in 2018.

The purpose of this risk report is to support humanitarian responders to understand the primary and secondary risks that a COVID-19 outbreak could pose to the Rohingya Refugee population, based on the idea that this understanding can support mitigation and preparedness measures. This is not a specialised health report, it takes a holistic view of the plausible overall impact.

Beginning in January 2020, WHO has encouraged governments to reduce transmission of COVID-19. These efforts include active surveillance, detection, isolation and treatment, and contact tracing. This report maps the initial measures adopted by governments. It is a component of ACAPS’s broader effort to monitor the impact of the pandemic.

ACAPS mapped the information landscape in South Sudan with the objective of identifying information gaps and needs, as well as good practices in data collection and analysis. The overall aim is to support the assessment and analysis community in South Sudan by seeing clearly what is already available in terms of data and information and what areas of the analysis ecosystem could be strengthened.

The Mekong Delta is the most important food production area in Vietnam.Eight of twelve provinces in the Mekong Delta region are reported to be at risk. In January 2020 the province of Ben Tre has declared an environmental emergency due to the degree of the intrusion. 

This report is the result of joint analysis process led by the Cash and Market Working Group (CMWG), which included cash experts, and consultants for the humanitarian sector working on Yemen together with the ACAPS YAH. It explores the drivers behind the volatility of the Yemeni Riyal (YER) and its consequences. Parliamentary and municipal elections scheduled for 9 February 2020 are intensifying an escalation of the Anglophone crisis in Cameroon. On 7 January 2020, fighters from the Ambazonian separatist group burned down the Elections Cameroon office in Misaje commune, Donga Mantung division in Northwest region. The action was to reiterate their earlier decision not to participate in legislative and municipal council elections scheduled for 9 February 2020.

Between 31 December 2019 and 1 January 2020, the Northeast monsoon brought rainfall to Indonesia leading to heavy flooding across the Greater Jakarta area.14,000 people were reportedly displaced on the 8 January, down from previous days' estimates. The displaced are spread across 60 emergency shelters. 

915,000 people are recorded as affected. There are more than 88,000 persons taking temporary shelter in 577 evacuation centres. Typhoon destroyed about 17,400 houses and damaged 206,800. Damages of infrastructures and agriculture have been reported.

This study found that individuals and households often experience multiple vulnerabilities at once, and that being vulnerable in one way often leads to another form of vulnerability, resulting in an inescapable and vicious circle. The study was based on the premise that understanding the reasons for, and implications of, vulnerability beyond the typical humanitarian categories, should help humanitarian agencies provide a more nuanced response to needs, based on evidence. 

Typhoon Kammuri (Tisoy in the Philippines) made landfall in Eastern Philippines, on 3 December. Early reports indicate that Eastern Visayas and Bicol region have been particularly damaged, with destroyed houses and extreme flood warnings issued. 

This report published every two months provides decision makers with a short, accessible overview of key trends and emerging challenges that may affect humanitarian needs in Yemen. The product combines trends in key conflict and humanitarian data with daily media monitoring, secondary data review, and ongoing joint analysis with a broad spectrum of Yemen analysts.

A series of violent attacks against civilians in Beni city and Beni territory in North Kivu province in November has triggered mass displacement across the territory with an unconfirmed number of people fleeing to Beni city. In response to the attacks, residents in Beni began protesting the lack of protection on 22 November. Several organisations have announced the evacuation of staff from Beni until calm is restored. 

This report provides four different perspectives on the global humanitarian situation. Within these pages you will find a comparative analyses of 14 of the major humanitarian situations; an analysis of three highly complex and evolving regional crises; and a spotlight on three severe crises that did not get sufficient attention in 2019. Finally, we have identified a number of risks that may lead to a significant deterioration of particular crises in 2020.
