COVID-19 Government Measures Update IV

Yemen: Heavy rains and flash floods

Heavy rains since April 13 led to flooding, displacement, severe infrastructure damage and casualties across Yemen. 14 governorates were affected. Sana’a city, Sana’a, Ma’rib, Aden, and Lahj governorates reported the most significant impact.

Jammu and Kashmir: 2019 lockdown

A presidential decree on 5 August 2019 revoked Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution, which granted Jammu and Kashmir state special autonomous status. The move stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its political autonomy and was accompanied by a complete lockdown, unprecedented in Kashmir’s history, that began in August 2019 and continued through March 2020.

Colombia: Impact of COVID-19 Government Measures

Bangladesh: Covid-19 Explained, No isolation without consultation

COVID-19 Impact on Yemen Update

COVID-19 is yet to be confirmed in Yemen, however, the likelihood of its spread is high as cases in surrounding countries continue to grow. The country’s infrastructure has been devastated by five years of conflict, leaving little capacity to respond. Only 51% of health centres are fully functional. Current conflict escalation, displacement and overcrowding make it difficult to implement protection measures.

Sierra Leone: COVID-19 outbreak

Sierra Leone reported its first two confirmed case of COVID-19 on 30 March and 02 April. Sierra Leone was one of the last West African countries having no confirmed cases although it was one of the only countries in Africa having COVID-19 testing prior to the global outbreak.

Mozambique: Insecurity in Cabo Delgado

The escalation of insurgent activities in Mozambique’s northernmost province of Cabo Delgado is deteriorating the humanitarian situation of affected populations in the area. More than 11 of the 16 districts in the province have witnessed incessant attacks, about 350 since October 2017, with a significant rise in the death toll.

COVID-19 Impact on humanitarian operations

The responses covered at least 52 different countries of operation, not including single answers for multiple countries, regional responses, or headquarters.
