Lithuania

After the onset of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2014, in February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion from Russian and Belarusian territory into northern, eastern, and southern Ukraine. This resulted in mass displacement within Ukraine and abroad, mostly to the EU.

As at December 2023, over 52,000 refugees from Ukraine remained in Lithuania, around 85% of whom were women and children. The majority were displaced from southeastern Ukraine. An IOM survey conducted in the third quarter of 2023 showed that their main needs were financial support, health services, personal hygiene, and sanitary supplies.

Since March 2022, over 83,000 Ukrainians have applied for temporary protection status in the country. This status grants refugees from Ukraine access to health, education, and work.

The main needs identified in the 2024 Regional Response Plan are housing, cash assistance, employment, and healthcare services.
