ACAPS has been supporting joint education needs assessments in various contexts to help identify the status of education, the impact of the crises and inform decision making on the prioritisation of resources.
Nigeria, November 2017
The Nigeria Joint Education Needs Assessment (JENA) was commissioned on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, donors, development and humanitarian partners. ACAPS, who led the process, provided analysis which gave a detailed overview of the current situation of education in the latter half of 2017 throughout the three states most-affected by the insurgency: Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.
In Borno, only 3 out of 16 schools were open in Gubio LGA, 8 out of 75 in Konduga LGA, 7 out of 44 in Mafa LGA and 9 out of 38 in Monguno LGA. - JENA, November 2017
The assessment sought to identify which activities could support the resuming of education in a sustained way in a context marked by fighting, displacement, drought and economic crisis. The assessment provided essential data for stakeholders to understand the situation of the sector, including for children out of school. This information informed proposals and advocacy documents to increase financing for the sector. The assessment also prioritized geographic areas according to severity of needs and risks, and identified the most effective response approach for each area.
South Sudan, November 2016
In a context marked by fighting, displacement and a severe economic crisis, only very few children in South Sudan have access to quality education. ACAPS deployed an assessment expert and an analyst to the Education Cluster in South Sudan to support identification of the most effective activities to resume education in a safe and sustained way.
