Overview
Since December 2022, three weather systems—low pressure areas, the northeast monsoon, and a shear line (a weather system formed when cold and warm winds converge)—have caused heavy rains, strong winds, flooding, and landslides in the Philippines. The most affected administrative region is the Eastern Visayas region, which comprises around 50% of the affected population.
As at 30 January 2023, the combination of the three weather systems had killed 43 people and injured 11. It destroyed around 66,000 acres of cropland and damaged roads, bridges, flood control projects, and power, communication, and water treatment and supply infrastructure. As at 29 January 2023, around 12,000 people remained displaced. Half of them were still living in evacuation centres and needed food, drinking water, and NFIs, including blankets and hygiene and sleeping kits. ?
