The ‘Moro conflict’ in Mindanao between the Philippines government and Moro Muslim groups has been ongoing since 1969, with increasing intensity over the last decade. The conflict has led to widespread displacement, as well as infrastructure and shelter damage. Over 73,000 people remain displaced by a separate, five-month armed conflict in Marawi City between Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the Philippines government security forces in 2017.?Recovery is underway in the most affected areas.?

The Philippines frequently experiences tropical storms during the northeast monsoon from October to late March and during the southwest monsoon from June to October.

06/06: Heavy rainfall has been affecting Maguindanao Province, Mindanao Island, since 6 June, resulting in flooding in Datu Salibo and Sultan sa Barongis municipalities. At least 45,000 people have been displaced. The Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center is providing emergency assistance to the affected families, the majority of whom are staying with friends or relatives. Over the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms is forecast over Mindanao Island.?
