Analyst traineeship programme

We offer a traineeship programme for students and graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in the humanitarian sector and want to gain relevant work experience. Our traineeship programme lasts 12 months and is designed for progressive and constant learning.

Our trainees are mentored personally by a designated analyst and benefit from internal training by ACAPS staff, as well as thematic trainings by outside experts and other organisations.

As a trainee analyst, you will be in charge of following on a daily basis a portfolio of approximately 5 to 10 countries and report on the humanitarian situation with a weekly update. You will gain significant expertise in both quantitative and qualitative analysis of humanitarian crises. Within two-three months, you will have acquired the core basics for the regular work at ACAPS, and will be able to move on to other analytical products. There are  also opportunities to lead projects.

Roster recruitment

To increase the direct impact of ACAPS support to humanitarian community ACAPS maintains a roster of highly qualified professionals who are available to deploy in support of humanitarian needs analyses and assessments in sudden and slow-onset disasters, or in assessment preparedness contexts, either directly through ACAPS field projects or in support of requesting organisations. The roster is divided into three main profiles which are complementary: Assessments Experts, Senior Analysts and Analysts.

Assessment Experts are deployed to facilitate humanitarian needs assessments or complex analysis projects. They have a minimum of 10 years of humanitarian experience (UN system, Red Cross movement and NGOs), and are trained in ACAPS needs assessment methodologies with proven experience in facilitating humanitarian needs assessments; strong understanding of principles of emergency preparedness, response and early recovery; analyses of complex humanitarian situations and contexts; strong negotiating, coordination and representation skills; and understanding the IASC system. Senior Analysts are deployed to lead and/or contribute to timely analyses of humanitarian crises with the purpose of promoting a shared situational awareness to key humanitarian decision makers. Senior Analysts ideally have a minimum of 7 years of experience within the humanitarian system (UN system, Red Cross movement and NGOs); and are trained in ACAPS analysis methodologies; with solid understanding of the principles of emergency preparedness, response and early recovery. Additionally, knowledge and understanding of the institutional mandates of IASC agencies is required, as is a demonstrated understanding of needs assessments in humanitarian crisis. Junior Analysts are deployed to support and contribute to timely analyses of humanitarian crises.  Junior Analysts have 4 years of experience within the humanitarian system (UN, Red Cross movement, ACAPS and other NGOs) and are trained in ACAPS analysis methodologies; and familiar with quantitative and qualitative analysis methods, as well as experienced with collecting, collating, and analysing secondary data. Additionally, they possess solid understanding of the principles of emergency preparedness, response and early recovery, and have a solid understanding of the institutional mandates of IASC agencies.
