This report analyses the current situation of child recruitment and use by NSAGs and organised crime groups in the Colombian departments of Antioquia, Chocó, and Norte de Santander.

Vichada department is facing a critical food security crisis, with climate change and the El Niño phenomenon affecting local food production and availability. Poor infrastructure, hindering access to public services, and the reliance on traditional farming methods, hampering farmers’ ability to sell their produce and generate income, have deepened the crisis. 

Since the start of January 2024, multiple wildfires have raged in a number of Colombia’s departments. As at 26 January, the fires had ravaged approximately 17,000 hectares, with no information available on the number of people injured.

This report aims to explain elements necessary to understanding the humanitarian crisis in Colombia’s Amazonas department, with a specific focus on the impacts on the indigenous population.

La Guajira is the Colombian department with the highest food insecurity prevalence based on 2022 estimates. The situation in Argelia municipality, in southwestern Cauca department of Colombia, has been critical since August 2023 because of clashes between the Estado Mayor Central (EMC) and the Colombian army. The EMC is an alliance of various dissident armed groups from the demobilised Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP). 

Necoclí is one of the main transit points for those heading to the Darien jungle through Acandí and Capurgana, generating problems such as overcrowding, a lack of resources, and violence in the municipality. The presence of the Gaitanist Self-Defence Forces of Colombia (AGC) aggravates this situation.

This report provides an overview of key humanitarian crises resulting from armed conflict within 3 of the 32 departments in Colombia. It aims to inform humanitarian decision-making and programming by anticipating humanitarian needs in the departments of Antioquia, Caquetá, and Chocó.

Since the end of March 2023, rainfall has increased in the department of Arauca. During the first days of May, the rains increased the flow of the Arauca, Caño Caranal, Cusay, and Jordán Rivers, causing them to overflow into the municipalities of Arauquita and Saravena. As at 5 June, the floods had affected more than 9,700 people.

Between January–September 2022, more than 150,000 people crossed into Panama from Colombia through the Darién Gap. Although migrants have historically used the Darién route to reach Central America, the flow of migrants through this route considerably increased between 2021–2022. 

On 8 October, category one hurricane Julia swept through La Guajira department in northeastern Colombia. The hurricane affected over 159,000 people. Uribia municipality faced the highest impact with at least 22,000 people affected as at 8 October.
